Johanna Gullichsen designed the Nereus pattern in 1996 as part of the Normandie collection of woven fabrics. The graphic pattern consisting of rectangles and squares fits beautifully with Vaja Finland's clean-lined dishes. The names of all patterns in the Normandie collection have their roots in Greek mythology. Nereus is named after the eldest son of Pontus and Gaia, the gods of the sea and the earth. Wise Nereus was also famous for his ability to know the past and the future.
